Fake TFG Holiday Job Posts Circulate on Social Media

Scammers are posting fake December holiday job adverts claiming to be from retail giant TFG on Facebook and WhatsApp. TFG confirmed these offers are fraudulent and warned job seekers to apply only through official company portals.

What happened

Fake job adverts claiming to offer December holiday work at TFG stores are spreading across WhatsApp and Facebook. These posts advertise shop assistant roles requiring only a matric certificate. They direct interested people to unverified application links or invite them to message unverified WhatsApp numbers. TFG confirmed that these posts are scam listings and not official job offers.

How it worked

Scammers post fake job adverts on social media platforms and Facebook groups to catch job seekers looking for holiday work. They include minimal requirements and ask applicants to click third-party links or send direct WhatsApp messages for help. Once you contact them, scammers use phishing tactics to try to steal personal details like your ID number or banking information. They may also ask you to share the post or pay fake upfront fees.

How to protect yourself

• Apply for jobs only through the official TFG careers website at tfglimited.co.za/careers.
• Avoid job adverts on Facebook or WhatsApp that ask you to direct message unverified numbers for assistance.
• Never pay upfront fees or share personal details like your ID number over social media messaging apps.
