SASSA Fires Corrupt Staff and Recovers Stolen Grant Money
SASSA has dismissed over 65 staff members involved in social grant fraud since last year. The agency is recovering the stolen money directly from the dismissed workers' pensions.
What happened
SASSA dismissed more than 65 employees since April last year for fraudulent grant administration. Recently, four officials in Gauteng were fired after a disciplinary process into grant fraud. The agency is using its anti-fraud strategy to recoup stolen money from the pension funds of the dismissed workers.
How it worked
Dishonest employees use their internal access within SASSA to fraudulently process social grants. They take advantage of system access to misappropriate grant funds. SASSA's anti-fraud tracking system detects these illegal transactions, leading to disciplinary action and dismissal.
How to protect yourself
- Report any suspected grant fraud or corrupt official immediately to the police on 10111 or 112.
- Keep your SASSA card details, ID number, and PIN strictly private at all times.
- Check your grant payout balance regularly to make sure you receive your full payment.
